Common Q&A
How does it work?
The laser light passes through the toenail without causing damage to the nail or the surrounding skin. At the time of the procedure, the toenail will not become instantly clear; it takes time to grow out
What can I expect in the clinic?
An assessment consultation with us to identify if you have the fungal nail condition and are suitable for treatment, then the appropriate treatment plan (and progress monitoring) can be organised if you decide to pursue laser treatment for your condition.
Is the procedure painful?
Most people feel no pain. Some people feel heat or a warming sensation and very few feel a pinprick sensation.
Is there a recovery period?
No, just 'walk in and walk out'
How long does the procedure take?
The FootLaser procedure can take about one hour.
Will the fungus come back?
The infection improves following one treatment and typically we will recommend care techniques to reduce recurrence of the infection. There is a chance of re-infection because the fungus is present everywhere in the environment and some people may be more susceptible to the condition than others.
When can I paint my nails or have a pedicure?
You can have a pedicure and cut the nails but we advise you use a reputable therapist to minimise the chance of recontamination, sterile equipment is essential. It is important to remove all nail polish and nail decorations the day before your treatment and we advise at least a couple of weeks before applying any new polish, but if you can let the nails be free of polish for as long as possible.
How much does it cost?
The cost is typically about @ £730 for all ten nails (inclusive of the 2 progress monitoring appointments) and this is the most advised treatment protocol for maximum succes, but it is probably best to come for a free no obligation fungal nail assessment, perhaps we help with the cost dependent on severity of the infection and the involvement.
How do I pay for the procedure?
We have the facility to take most major credit cards, cash or cheque.
Is this covered by my insurance?
This procedure is considered aesthetic and therefore health insurance does not provide coverage.
How long has this been available?
Podiatrists began using it in 2008 in the USA where it was developed ,following successful clinical studies.
Does it have a CE mark?
Yes.
